The Emerson Elementary School Garden broke ground on Earth Day in 2013 through the combined efforts of parents, teachers and administrators. This amazing 60' x 60' space is filled with 22 raised planting beds (2 of which are designated digging beds) as well as a periphery of fruit trees and bushes, herbs, grapes and berries.
If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.
— Marcus Tullius Cicero
There are 8 benches that convert into 4 picnic tables and a fixed umbrella that provide a peaceful place for learning. The school garden is a designated outdoor classroom with a goal of 10 classes growing seedlings indoors and another 12 classes sowing seed directly into the garden soil - that includes almost every class! Because the school garden is a classroom, the gate is locked at times there is not a garden steward present.
The garden is managed and maintained entirely by volunteers. To find out more and/or to get involved please email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
